User Zone / How to set hwclock (BMC) to correct date?
« on: January 23, 2021, 05:51:45 am »
Hello everyone,

does anyone know how to set / to sync the hwclock?
I'm connected to the internet, but the clock dosen't sync.

Thanks in advance

You can't compare Debian and Fedora. Fedora is close to upstream (which means up to date packages) and Debian is focused on stability (which means they don't use the latest packages).

This is no surprise, since all distributions use, more or less, the same kernel.
And Kernel 5.4 needs the Navi patches.

As MauryG5 wrote, if I login KDE Wayland I get a black screen and have to restart the machine the hard way (push button).

It seems Wayland is not supported with Fedora 33 / Kernel kernel-5.9.16-200.fc33. I do not have a graphical card (use the standard HDMI that comes out of the OpenBMC), so no driver issue I suppose.

Running Wayland on the Blackbird was yet again an unmitigated disaster and I have not seen any information to suggest this has changed for simple framebuffers in general (so if you're a straight BMC-only system as mine is, fuggedaboutit). On the T2, Wayland is still not as snappy as Xorg, but performance was not massively different and window theming and decorations seem more consistent.

You could choose Wayland on the login screen. If you have auto-login, logout, choose Wayland, login.

I found this about KDE and Plasma on Fedora:

… Currently KDE still uses X11 and although there is a plasma-wayland session available, it is not considered stable or bugfree at this time ...

But will be default on Fedora 34

The problem affects every other distribution as well

The Nvidia PPC64le driver allows you to use the GPU for compute (headless), only. Sadly.

As of today, sadly no news.
I think, I would pick a Talos-II lite if I want to buy a POWER9 mainboard.

I will not participate in this. The CPU has a TDP of 190W, the Blackbird has a max TDP of 160W.

So from my point of view the CPU is useless. Either the CPU is limited to 160W, if this is not the
case the VRMs of the Blackbird will be grilled over time.

Only this. But it's already more than six weeks old.

I also installed Slackware successfully on my Blackbird.

The lack of STR is a big one, IMO.

FWIW, there is absolutely no problem to playback 4K on Navi14
