Unfortunately, I cannot answer the second half of the question. But in the past Alex Kan (he worked for a certain fruit company) had optimized clients for G4 and G5.
After the switch we could annoy (because of the PPC970MP
) Intel a little bit -> Top Computers February 2006
I just found the old directory of this client.
This client was in use at least until 2009, AFAIK.
I'll keep looking, maybe I'll find more.
Perhaps it does for the first attempt a quick and dirty optimization?
