Debian (sid) is still available for big-endian systems.

OBS-Studio should be available on sid and Bullseye. Can't you just activate the repository for this package only?

I am actually considering getting another Blackbird just so that I can continue learning software compilation without having to worry about blowing away my primary system again.

You can install multiple distributions on one disk. Or just buy a second hard disk.

Edit: OBS is also available on VoidLinux PPC64le

I have decided to try the following distributions:

ALT Linux
Arch Linux
Devuan
KISS Linux
PowerEL

Then I tried almost all of them.

Yes, since Kernel 5.8.6 I get also a black screen.

The Navi problems are Kernel related. You will face that problem on any POWER-distribution.

I never tried myself, but memtester should work.

And for Navi you need at least Kernel 5.6.13 or these patches.

In July I have read that the Bullseye installer is using serial port for some reason. I would try to sshing into the TalosII.
root@talos -t -p2200. The password is in the mainboard package. The paper looks like a sales slip.

Here is an overview of working HBAs.

That sounds like a good strategy.

But I'm afraid that the new Navi-GPUs will have the same problem as the old one.
With Navi-GPUs, fast-reset must be disabled. Which is quite annoying.

I still have kernel problems. The GPU does not crash, but that's probably where my sound problems come from. I dunno if it depends on the model, but I guess that it concerns all Navi-GPUs.

Regarding RX 580 I would buy either a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB or a PowerColor Radeon RX 580 Red Dragon V2 8GB. But this is a question of taste. Performace/ noise-wise these are pretty good, IMO. Each costs approx. €170.

Too many drawbacks.

A Polaris GPU causes far fewer problems. The performance between RX 580 and RX 5500 is almost identical. Performance/price ratio between RX 580 and RX 5700 is also better.

I have a Navi, too with no problem and the R9 Nano is a Fiji-GPU, AFAIK.

Applications and Porting / Re: Raspberry Pie

I dunno. On the Raspberry Pi, I can just use a PS3 Dualshock wirelessly. On POWER9 you would need a BT-Stick etc. The Raspberry Pi is fine for me.

But of course, any software that runs natively is good.

RetroPie is pretty good. I have installed it on my Raspberry Pi. Amstrad (my first PC, Schneider CPC6128  8)), C64 and Amiga games are working well.
