My personal opinion is that these old machines are now obsolete and it no longer makes sense to keep them alive given the growing limits.  On the contrary, the time has come to invest in Raptor machines that represent Power's future in the home environment.  They are and have made a great effort to bring Power back to our homes, I was no longer hoping to revise my favorite architecture, to return to the homes of all of us!  So with all due respect to the old machines, that's it, it's time to evolve and change, support Raptor and carry on the whole oper Power project!

Hey guys where are we with the Kernel fixes? I am ready for testing as soon as you make it available ...

sorry guys, speaking of kernels, on Debian I was trying a different procedure to compile the Kernel. Until now I have always used the make menuconfig commands to configure and then I did make -j32, make modules, make modules_install and make install and he compiled and installed modules and kernels and automatically updated the Grub. The only flaw of this procedure is that if you query the system asking for all the installed kernels, it never shows you the one installed with this procedure and consequently you cannot remove it with the classic purge command but you have to manually remove it file by file and in each case the system does not recognize it as an officially installed kernel, even though it works fine in the end. Using instead the command: sudo make -j 32 KDEB_PKGVERSION = 1.-maury.ppc64le deb-pkg, then in effect create all the packages with extension .deb and then with dpkg -i install them and you have the kernel recognized by the system as well. Except that while on Ubuntu I managed to get it to work, on Debian it always gives me this error: make [2]: *** [debian / rules: 7: build-arch] Error 2
dpkg-buildpackage: error: debian / rules binary subprocess returned exit status 2
make [1]: *** [scripts / Makefile.package: 77: deb-pkg] Error 2
make: *** [Makefile: 1576: deb-pkg] Error 2

I did some research on Google, I saw that they had some libraries installed but nothing had no effect, they say to configure the CONFIG TRUSTED KEY but I have always done it by deleting all the text and it has always worked with the classic make -j32 but nothing here, it always keeps giving me that damn mistake ... I don't understand why it doesn't want to work on Debian ... Can you tell me what's missing or where the error is? Thank you

Confirmed then apparently, the problem is ours on Power unfortunately ...

But in fact it seems strange to me too that suddenly there is a conflict between altivec and the new kernels, because it would mean that we at Power have the problem specifically ... I don't know what is happening on X86 or Arm in relation to this fact...

I don't know how to report the problem and I don't know where to do it, I already the first time when I noticed it on the first version of 5.16, I started this discussion here on the forum but I don't know how to do it specifically and where to do it unfortunately ... I need that you help me in this regard ...

Here I just tried to compile and install the new 5.17 kernel but the problem is still the same as 5.16, something is missing and it does not start ... this is the error message at startup ...

I didn't know about the AST GPU to be honest. Personally I am still using 10.15, given the problems that there are on 5.16 so now I don't know if something has changed, I would like some confirmation before compiling a version 16 ...

Operating Systems and Porting / Re: [NEWS] Debian 11 is out

Hi guys, I wanted to ask you something that I have never been able to understand well. For some time now, I have been compiling the kernels myself to make sure that I use options that are more congenial to me and be able to use the infamous 4K page format as my friend Daniel Pocock taught me. To compile the Kernel, both on Debian and on Ubuntu which is a derivative, I use the universal procedure and then I do: make menuconfig and I configure the kernel, make -jx, obviously I put the number of treed in place of x, make modules, make modules install and finally make install. At that point after make install the grub updates and gives me the new kernel and actually at the new start, I find it in the list of usable kernels. The only thing I can't understand though is, why when I give the grep command to see the installed kernels, I never get my compiled files? Consequently if I have to remove one of mine, I can't because giving the classic remove command, it tells me that that kernel obviously doesn't exist. I would like to understand what is missing in my procedure, which allows the system to recognize 100 by 100 the kernel compiled and installed by me ... Thanks to all of you always

Guys sorry but still have no news of Kernel 5.16 problems on AMD Radeon graphics cards? It's been a while now and I think it will have come to you via Fedora too ...

Guys sorry but apart from the Debian and derivative versions, is there a Fedora or other version of Chromium up to date?  I have not seen anything at the moment it seems to me ...

Guys I have noticed a strange thing since I have been using Chromium 97. There are some videos on You Tube that I get errors and they don't load. Then the same videos I go to play them with Firefox and they work regularly. It seems that there has been a step back from Chromium to Power and instead Firefox has taken a decisive step forward. I am using Debian as a distro and like Firefox now version 91.06 ESR has arrived which works really well, by the way I take this opportunity to congratulate my friend Classic for the excellent work he does on Firefox for Power. Returning to Chromium, it is really strange that a browser like him that grinds everything on the web, now has some difficulties. Obviously I have installed all the additional files that Raptor has published together with the main version of Chromium 97 ... Do you have any idea of what happens ...

Good MPC, interesting discussion. At this point we just have to follow the story and see if they will develop MakeMKV for us too ...

I understand so it is not usable anyway.  I had read that it was an ideal application for reading Blu-rays on Linux.  Obviously I always talk about original and regularly purchased software.

Hi guys, that you know is there the possibility to compile the MakeMKV application on Power? I just tried but I get stuck on the command: ./configure --prefix = / usr --disable-static
it gives me the error that says: configure: error: cannot guess build type; you must specify one

As for the list of libraries you ask me, it seems that there is no library for us: libqt4-dev

Have any of you ever tried to build this application by accident?
