Classic ok but I don't know the exact procedure to replace this library you speak of.  How should one remove that one and put another better one?  And then which one to put?  How to install?  I don't know anything about it ...

Operating Systems and Porting / Re: [NEWS] Debian
« on: February 22, 2022, 04:30:55 pm »
Guys, after some testing, I decided to promote Debian as the first distro to use on Power. I noticed the great improvements that version 11 brought and I realized therefore that Debian is now much more usable than recently at the time of version 10. I also realized that it maintains a certain lightness compared to Fedora and Ubuntu, all load much faster than the other distros mentioned. Unfortunately Ubuntu continues to suffer chronically from some critical issues that unfortunately limit its use a bit and Fedora by now, since adopting the Gnome version 3.4X, is no longer usable as before and needs changes that must be known to do. At the moment I am therefore much more satisfied with Debian and its evolutions and so now I use it on everyone, hoping that it continues to be as good as it is now.

And I think it will be the one who does not allow you to see both at the same time, you do not think about it at the moment.  Then I got the doubt and in fact now having removed the origin, the new one works perfectly.  I don't need to change UUID because now I only keep the new one, I leave the old one only as a spare.  Thank you all!

No Classic, I answered myself, this thing escaped me, I did not know that when you clone a hardisk, one of the 2 you have to disassemble it otherwise he sees 2 identical things and continues to make the source work. It's the first time I've ever done a cloning. Everything ok now I'm writing from the cloned one and it works perfect and I also bought a much higher speed obviously! Thank you

i used exactly this: sudo dd if = / dev / sda of = / dev / sdb bs = 64K conv = noerror, sync

Except that now I'm having a doubt, isn't it that by chance when you do the cloning, you have to physically unmount the source hard drive, otherwise the system continues to load only the one not seeing the other as identical? I still left the original one, regularly uploaded to the computer ...

Guys cloning I managed to do it by myself using DD. Now I find the new SSD, exactly like the source disk, I mounted it in the root partition but I don't understand now how to make it bootable like the original one. What procedure should be used to make this clone bootable with Debian?

Hi TLE, thanks for the news.  At the moment Fedora put it aside and am using Ubuntu and Debian more, due to that exasperated slowness issue of Gnome from 40 onwards.  We will see later anyway thanks for the good news.

Classic the problem is that I do not know if I am capable of making this modification, it depends on the complexity of this procedure you are saying. However, before unmounting the Fedora 35 hardisk, I had installed libgraphene, I had also written it in the discussion concerning Fedora 35 but unfortunately nothing has changed because obviously we also need this patch you are talking about. I don't know if I can put this patch but ...

Power friends good morning, I have a question to ask you, I would like to clone the hard drive containing Debian 11 and bring it to SSD, currently being that I was just testing it, I have it on a mechanical hard drive.  What is the best procedure you recommend, without obviously doing damage?  Thanks always!

I personally took 3 hard disks and installed Debian, Ubuntu and Fedora.  I was fine with Fedora until it made the switch to Gnome 40, it literally sucks as they haven't fully optimized the code and it was slow, jerky and almost unusable.  I then used Ubuntu which in fact I realized that as fluidity and use it turned out to be the best but unfortunately it has several small bugs that have never been solved unfortunately.  Besides Firefox for example there is another bug which consists in not reading audio CDs, you put a common CD and it does not load the tracks.  Debian 11 has improved a lot I must say and now that Chromium 97 has arrived, I am starting to use it a little more and it is good overall.  I have compiled the Kernel in version 5.15.3 with 4K pages and with a firmware update I can make the AMD Radeon 5700 XT 50 th Anniversary edition work well.  I'd like to have Ubuntu troubleshoot but I still haven't figured out how to report it to them directly if I have to tell you the truth ...

Woof do you like me use Ubuntu on Power? We are few who use it here, you too have found the Firefox problems I have been talking about for some time, such as the bug of the bookmark that does not work and the problem that occurs when you use Firefox on certain sites ...

Unfortunately the problem for us at Power is always the same, on the software side that you will have to use for your works, what optimization will you have ?!  We usually suffer on this front compared to X86 ...

Thank you Classic for your always valuable information.  Meanwhile, I have good news on the Chromium front, Raptor gave me this link ...

Ok but these people you say use the Power version? Because from what I understand, the problem occurs on Power not on X86 ... I wrote in that forum because my friend Amock told me that there was a report made to that site and that they had already tried to solve it but without success. If I knew who is using Firefox on Ubuntu I could ask directly if something should be enabled but I think it is our version of Power that suffers from these annoying bugs ...

With my friend Amock, we talked about these reports, he also uses Ubuntu and gave me a link where to report the problem related to the bookmark that has always plagued the Ubuntu version. In the meantime he told me that he too makes his source and he explained how to do it and he also told me that if you do it from the source, then these problems are not encountered. I tried to do it myself as a source but I couldn't. You Classic can you try to give me the exact procedure to be able to build it myself from source and see if I can do it with yours? Maybe there is something in your procedure that doesn't work and I can't build it myself ... Regarding the bug report we wrote on this site but we haven't received any new answers yet, unfortunately ...
