Talos II / Re: Damaged motherboard?
« on: September 12, 2022, 06:47:07 pm »
I would write to Raptor publicly on Twitter, no PM. They usually respond very quickly on Twitter.
As long as the new motherboard is not there, I would use the defective one with just one CPU.

Possible. I'm surprised ... there wasn't any announcement. I will ask.

It seems it's a hardware issue which will be fixed in future revisions:

How is your TalosII configured to boot faster? Or do you use !BMC?

Fast reboot isn't much faster? It saves me 90 seconds if active.

Yes, Hackerspace. Available in Germany. Hamburg, Berlin, Nürnberg, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, München etc.

That way, perhaps the most people would get something out of it. And I would not give the Blackbird away, but make it available for an indefinite period of time. And you could get an idea of the hackerspace on site.

Okay for that price maybe not. But it won't get any better. But choice is always good.

Unfortunately, as expected, the performance of the card is laughable like any other Intel GPU. The only interesting thing is the price.

To be honest, I wouldn't choose Debian either. Debian is in my view the best equipped distribution in terms of OpenPOWER hardware. Secondly, when I look at the PowerPC mailing list, it's all about big-endian. Requests or bug reports regarding PPC64le remain unanswered. If I were to give the Blackbird to a Debian maintainer, it would be John Paul Adrian Glaubitz.

The NetBSD guy is suspicious to me.

Your second option "OzLabs member" sounds the most interesting to me.

But hey, in the end it's your decision.

Time ago I tried 15.1. It works fine. 15.4 should work, too.

A dashboard or wiki page would be good. We only have a page about operating systems and about porting status, but nothing about libraries or what is missing at all.
