Firmware / Re: Firmware 2.10 for Talos-II and Blackbird available

Are you trying to build a version with debug info?
Looks like the debug Dwarf version isn't being set properly for some reason.

I'm not familiar with IRC is it setup so new people can't see previous discussions?
I signed up but don't see any old posts in any of the channels.

Is there a place (IRC, discord...) were people are discussing the Arctic Tern and Kestrel development?

Firmware / Re: Flashing corrupted BMC firmware
« on: November 16, 2023, 12:37:45 pm »

I don't know why flashing the chip isn't working but it may not be corrupted.
I was getting the same DRAM Init-V12-DDR4 errors and after removing the chip and re-seating it my Talos-II booted up.

Are there settings on the HighPoint you can change? Or it might need a firmware update?

Applications and Porting / Re: IDE's w/remote dev

I'll take a look, but really don't like eclipse so I'm hoping for something else that could work.

Does anyone know of an IDE that allows you to remotely connect to the Talos II?

My Talos II is setup as a server so I want to remote into it but VS code server doesn't (and won't) support PowerPC.
Looks like IntelliJ IDEA doesn't either.

There are a few issues. The connection should be RS232 not TTL. So you need a USB to RS232 adapter not USB to TTL.
I tried my USB/TTL and got the same result you did. So, I checked the schematic and noticed it shouldn't be TTL and also the pinout in the schematic is different from the manual.

In the manual pin numbers alternate rows. So, ground is the bottom right most pin9 (pin 5 in schematic).

Sorry, I don't know if CR/LF is the correct setting, just meant you should try different ones.

You can also connect the TX and RX together on the dongle and see if you get what you type to loop back.

PuTTY doesn't work with some devices because the line ending type is hard coded. You can change it in TeraTerm though, so I would try different setting for CR/LF in TeraTerm.

Have you tried a different terminal program?

Blackbird / Re: Question about firmware flash switches
« on: January 28, 2023, 11:24:52 pm »
Looking at the schematic, moving the switch towards 1 disables write protection (allows writing).
The pin is disconnecting from BMC control and pulled high by resistor; 1(off) 2(on)

The film (kapton tape) is there to protect the switch when it's being soldered to the motherboard add to allow a machine to pick up the part and place it on the motherboard.

Talos II / Re: Damaged motherboard?

I think it's still a pretty big risk to try and use it.
With that big of a solder splash, there could be other smaller and harder to see ones anywhere else on the motherboard.
Or even loose solder balls rolling around waiting to short out some pins.

Maybe petiboot isn't loading the USBHID driver? I've been able to directly login to the bootloader.
IIRC, hvc0 is for connecting a terminal to the Rs232 serial port.
