Low profile heatsink?
« on: April 25, 2020, 05:35:16 am »
I am thinking of putting my Blackbird into a small computer case with less room to accommodate the stock 3U HSF that Raptor offers. Wondering if anyone know of any low-profile heatsink that is compatible with the motherboard socket (btw what's the socket name?).

Socket name is LGA 2601. There is only the 2U HS from Raptor/ IBM.
q66 has made a custom watercooling solution for his Tyan POWER8 server. It's the same for the Blackbird, because the IBM heatsink for POWER8/ POWER9 are identical.

I have the 2U heatsink on my 4-core Blackbird. Depending on environment I would personally consider an 8-core thermally constrained in a low-profile case without the full 3U HSF, though mine is also crammed into an mATX HTPC case under an AV receiver with a bank of case fans on the side pumping air out.
