Talos II / Re: RAM clock with full channels
« on: July 17, 2021, 07:05:11 pm »
Speed decreases with the number of DIMMs per channel. You get the full 2666MHz with a single DIMM per channel, 2400 for 2, 2133 for 4. However, the controller for each processor has 8 channels, and the T2 has 8 DIMM slots per CPU, so I don't think you're going to have a problem as long as you have both CPU sockets populated.

Here's what lshw reports on my 64GB dual-8 Talos II (the workstation I'm typing on):

I've found I have fewer issues if I don't use gdm at all. Can you do a text boot and startx from there?

243
That's what I mean: you can coerce X11 into running the ASPEED at full 1920x1080 but not Wayland, at least not with any means known to me.

244
I have never been able to get Wayland to run the ASPEED at anything over 1024x768. That said, Xorg is fine with the WX7100 on Fedora 34 (now that the performance issue with graphene is sorted out).

I salute your attempts at Ubuntu. I suspect it doesn't get a lot of discussion here because not many people run it (?).

Also, what fluid did you use?

Nice temperature reduction! I'm pretty confident all those problems are solvable.

There is no Wasm support currently. It's being worked on and we'd love contributors (right now it's primarily me with some help from chmeee): https://github.com/chmeeedalf/gecko-dev/commits/master

I assume this is the game? http://www.baronygame.com/ Looks fun!

I tried upgrading the Blackbird the other day, and it wanted to downgrade a few packages, which seemed surprising.

252
Not sure what that means either. Maybe it's one of the underlying libraries which was fixed or upgraded in F34?

I'll be giving this a spin in a week or two. Blackbird first, then T2.

Well, as long as they haven't removed Xorg.
