I just installed AlmaLinux, using it now.
I selected the Workstation spin. It uses Gnome, and I really don't care for it anymore.

That is as far as I've got.....thus far.

Devuan

    Today I installed Devuan. It works.

I have not done anything with it yet except try a few programs. Looks good for a new (and different) distro. It does boot very fast.

I used the mini.iso and the expert install option selecting the 5.10.0-9 kernel.
I'm also had to use the Realtec RTL8168e-2.fw nic firmware. Which I rescued from a x86 box.
I'm also using the AST graphics.
So far......So good.

I agree.
    IMO. We POWER9 desktop and small server users have only begun to utilize the CPU and the motherboard design.
We don't know what we can do to expand these machines and possible future of motherboard design to include more
functionality for either desktop or even commercial users.

    It is just too soon to consider POWER10 as a next motherboard CPU for other than commerical use if there is a market for
such a machine.

    Let us push POWER9 just as far as possible into the future.

I just installed Debian 11.2 Bullseye today, no problems. I used the default install on the AST VGA.

Borley made his post sometime ago and have already worked out his install problem with Debian 11.
Since his list of hardware is not listed it is difficult to offer help.

I hope he is using the AST VGA for the install, and then go from there to tune system for his hardware.
I hope he replies.

And YES, the Deb 11.2 netinstall.iso works fine.

Today I will attempt to do a new install with the latest Debian 11 net install iso.
I use the onboard VGA for the install as not all the AMD firmware is on the install iso.
I'll be back later to report.

I did a fresh install of Bullseye instead of updating my current 10.9.
As with other Debian flavors it is not really ready for prime time, but yes, it does install and run at least in the AST chip.
Some of the missing software that I use regularly has not reached the distro yet and will no doubt be along soon (ish).
For example, Midnight Commander and XFE. No hurry...10.9 is working fine.

On my T2 the stock 4.19.0-17 kernel does run on the ASPEED VGA display 1920x1080 no problems.
(Older monitor max resolution.)

However, when installing the system from scratch I first install only LXDE and then, when up and running,
I will run TASKSEL and install MATE. No GDM, not on the system.

My custom kernels will only run on the WX7100, they are a whole different ball of bees wax, , , Bees included.

Actually the double quotes would only be needed if you modified the line in a Text Editor. However, doing it with Menuconfig is a better way.
You can try the Text editor later after you have a working kernel and wish to play around.

Go down to Additional X.509 keys for default system keyring.
Hit Enter.
Delete all the text, including the quotes, and Enter again.
Then EXIT, EXIT, EXIT and save the new configuration.

I noticed you are using the default desktop file manager for this problem.
May I suggest to you to install and try XFE and MC (Midnight Commander). Play with them for a while, especially for system and kernel work you might find them very handy.

Sometimes all you need is a bigger hammer.

Yes, I have done this before.

There have been many requests for someway to rebuild or refresh /etc/fstab, but no luck from the distros. So this works IF you are careful.

In gparted, just be sure to copy the new uuid number of the partition you Clear. Then paste it into /etc/fstab replacing the old one.

I have another recommendation for you after this problem solved. Let me know when you are done.

Free advice (for what it's worth). This could fix the problem, or screw things up really bad.

The UUID of that partition in /dev/disk/by-uuid and /etc/fstab must be the same.

Open Gparted and select the proper swap partition. Then in the Partition Menu select swap-off and Apply that. Next, select the partition again and from the menu select Format and Cleared from the secondary menu.
Apply that. Now format the partition as Linux-swap, and apply. Then set swapon.

Select Information and Highlight the new uuid, you can use Ctrl + c to copy it  and paste it into a text editor.
As root open /etc/fstab with a text editor, cut the old uuid number from the file and paste the new number in it's place and save the file.

Reboot. It's okay to curse me if things went very badly.
