User Zone / Re: RME Sound card enabling
« on: March 30, 2020, 04:28:03 pm »
Hi everyone, unfortunately, currently unable to use Creative's excellent Sound Blaster AE-9, for lack of drivers, I was turning my attention to a sound card that the Wiki guide says to be working on Power or the RME HDSPe AIO . Does anyone know how to make it work and where to find any drivers that are needed to make it work properly on our Power systems? Thanks

Blackbird / Menu and options of PetitBoot
« on: March 30, 2020, 04:02:10 pm »
Hi guys, I asked Raptor why our Petitboot after starting BMC on Power, does not have the menu with all those options and information that the motherboards of X86 systems have, for example CPU type, speed, temperature, number of fans installed and their speed in real time, installed memory, speed of the same etc ... They sent me this link but I don't know how to use it and why even if I understand that my answer lies in this link. Can any of you explain to me more specifically this thing? Thanks

That sounds like a great enhancement request for https://github.com/open-power/petitboot !

Unfortunately, no, that's why I asked you. I the only one that I know you know him too or Unrial tournament, only that as you told me, you are currently missing parts because of which you cannot continue. Other I don't know.

General Discussion / Re: Printers and management drivers

Guys then, thanks to MPC who always manages to give me the right tips and helps me a mess, I did as he said, I opened that folder and following a guide that I found on the internet I tried to install those drivers downloaded from site. Well the system told me that there were errors regarding the architecture but some things seem to have installed in any case. After I did a search and I saw that to have the printer recognized and configured, you must have CUPS installed that I didn't have and then you must enter via a browser to be able to configure it. At that point, once I entered, I was able to configure the printer and in the end I was able to establish the connection and make it work. So a special thank you to friend MPC7500 for his valuable advice!

Currently I use the M2070 on Mac, never used on Linux, the drivers on Linux are the ones that I downloaded some time ago and that you also posted. But I didn't know the Norch folder and I didn't know this. So you advise to see that folder and see if the drivers are written in a universal language that can read any platform or if they are binary and therefore specific for architecture ... I seem to understand this

I got it. But do you feel something newer that runs with the Unreal Engine 4 graphics engine like I know, Tekken 7 or similar?

Wow congratulations tle, you're always very active on the games front and various emulators, good. But it would take something newer don't you think? Like a PS2 emulator for example.

In any case I had already tried these drivers but they don't work because they are certainly for X86 architecture. Our current problem I think is that there are no support drivers for the various printers on Power, it is one of the gaps that we should try to fill ...

Blackbird / Re: Heatsink dual fan configuration
« on: March 25, 2020, 04:33:03 pm »
Yes, I know, when they need to increase their speed, the problem was that by sticking at low speed all the time, they made it warm up a bit in the upper part of the case. Now it does not happen anymore because this fan is more adequate in size and I turn it at a constant average speed and in this way it goes great and makes to dispose of the little heat that was formed before.

Ok MPC but these drivers are not written for X86?

The problem, however, arises when we need to connect a printer directly via USB cable, we would therefore need to have a specific development of drivers in the Power version that is currently perhaps missing. For example, I have a Samsung 2070M and unfortunately I can currently only use it on Mac because on Power I cannot use it as there are no drivers that allow me to recognize it. Is there anything that is being worked on in this regard?

Blackbird / Re: Heatsink dual fan configuration

After a few days of testing I realized that with the intake fan, the one mounted in the case, the upper part no longer heats even the little that it heated before after a few hours of use. I connected it directly to the 12 volt of the second 4-pin molex connector that comes out of the power supply for the CPU. Since we have a CPU on the Blackbird, the second connector remains free and usable. The only problem is the noise going at maximum speed in the case of this fan that I had inside. I then purchased a quality fan or a much quieter Noctua NF-A9 and with the possibility of using it at a lower speed but always higher than that which the Blackbird gives when switching the speed after loading the petit boot. I'll mount it later and see how it goes but I'm sure that in this way I have the best solution ever.

Operating Systems and Porting / Re: New Ubuntu 20.04
« on: March 23, 2020, 03:44:15 pm »
So you think that the kernel with which Ubuntu 20.04 will come out does not have support for Navi10 / 14, but this is serious considering that these cards have been on the market for almost 1 year now ...

They understood as the Ubuntu development team or Canonical. So are you telling me that you won't be able to use Navi 10 on Ubuntu? Not even doing a patched modified kernel?

Operating Systems and Porting / New Ubuntu 20.04
« on: March 23, 2020, 07:00:37 am »
Power Community good morning, in April as we all know, both Ubuntu 20.04 and Fedora 32 will come out, COVID-19 emergency obviously allowing. About Ubuntu 20.04, I was asking myself a question or, what possibility will there be of using the AMD Radeon 5700 graphics cards that we currently use with Fedora with modified Kernel? I know I will use version 5.4 of the Kernel but I don't know what kind of support there will be for graphics cards, does anyone already know how it will work on Ubuntu?

Another thing that I did not understand is why they use 5.4 kernels when version 5.7 is already being developed and with 5.6 that if I have not misunderstood it is already working ...

Thank you
