Operating Systems and Porting / Re: Fedora custom kernel does not install

For my friend TLE, here's the screenshot of the kernel directory just compiled, I can't install it because I can't find the right syntax of the command...

Debian friends, the link that TLE posted brings Chromium version 84 for various distributions.  Is it possible in your opinion to install it on Debian by downloading it from this link?  I tried this with the dpkg command but couldn't, maybe because it has no .Deb extension ... I tried dpkg -i

Hi guys sorry but I can't install Chromium from this package found in the link of the good TLE. Can you tell me how to install this package on Debian? Thanks, obviously I got the tar.xz archive to be able to install it on Debian ...

Moral of the story we are still unfortunately still from what I see ... It didn't take, Chromium is the best on Power and not having it updated yet is bad ...

Xlinder once again a special thanks to you for your good work with Debian, here is the complicated and correctly installed Kernel 5.11.  Also on Debian the universal procedure works perfectly once you have everything installed and modify those 4 necessary parameters.  So I still don't understand why Fedora doesn't let me do that and gives me that damn error due to the dracut file.  I also tried to remove the 95 resume folder which is the one offending but unfortunately it does not install it anyway.  Yes, the mistake does not take it out anymore but does not complete the installation ... I would like to understand what to do sincerely ...

Now compile regularly, but yesterday evening I had to interrupt the procedure because I was compiling from Daniel Pocock's 5.9.6 kernel and being that the compilation in the case of Debian switches the GPU off and on several times, I could no longer continue since kernel 5.9.  X on Power suffers from this bug, if you turn off the GPU or when switching to the video output of the GPU, the monitor goes black and it is no longer possible to do anything.  I found the same problem on Fedora so I realized that the problem lies in the Linux Power Kernel in version 5.9.X.  In fact, every time I load Debian with 5.9 I always have to switch the video output first otherwise it crashes irreversibly ... Today I try to do everything from 4.19 and I will let you know thanks Xlinder.  In which line of the kernel configuration I understood that I had to put only double quotes for that I asked you to write me exactly what I had to put.  Tonight I try and tell you.  Thanks for everything always.

Hi Xlinder, always thanks for your precious help, I installed what I was missing, only 2 at the end of your list, unfortunately I can't understand the options to be fixed in the section you tell me in the api encryption section.  You tell me exactly what I have to do in that section but for how it looks in the configuration menu, I am sending you a photo to understand.  I can't understand it from how you wrote it in your post sorry ... Currently mine is like this and it gives me an error in the line "debian / certain / eufi-certs.pem" written just like this including the quotes ... how should I change  this?  How should the other options be put?  Thanks for your patience...

In any case, I don't understand why the Debian site lists the "linux-package" package when it no longer exists. Obviously the procedure they give does not work because that package does not download and honestly I can not understand all this ... What replaces that package and why is it not mentioned anywhere?

Guys I was trying to compile and install the 5.11 kernel on Debian using the universal procedure but it doesn't let me install the openssl-devel library.  In fact, as soon as I try to compile it gives me the classic error that it does not find it.  Do you have any addictions in turn that I don't know?  Thank you.

Free advice (for what it's worth). This could fix the problem, or screw things up really bad.

The UUID of that partition in /dev/disk/by-uuid and /etc/fstab must be the same.

Open Gparted and select the proper swap partition. Then in the Partition Menu select swap-off and Apply that. Next, select the partition again and from the menu select Format and Cleared from the secondary menu.
Apply that. Now format the partition as Linux-swap, and apply. Then set swapon.

Select Information and Highlight the new uuid, you can use Ctrl + c to copy it  and paste it into a text editor.
As root open /etc/fstab with a text editor, cut the old uuid number from the file and paste the new number in it's place and save the file.

Hi Xlinder, you are great! I applied everything you told me and solved the problem big time. Fedora now starts up smoothly and no longer hangs there for 1.30 minutes. Since you told me that the uuid number of etc / fstab must also be on dev / disk / by-uuid you have made me understand the whole problem. In practice he crashed because he did not find the correspondence of the swap partition, the number that was there of the new partition he had created before Debian and then when I deleted and reformatted it the first time, it no longer corresponded with the one contained in by-uuid and consequently he stopped at that point and finding no response then deactivated the swap partition. Now I have to do the same procedure on the other hardisk with another Fedora installed and restore that to return to normal. Thank you so much for your advice you were great!
Reboot. It's okay to curse me if things went very badly.

In practice, now that I carefully read your procedure, I have already performed the deletion of the offending swap partition when all this happened to me and I thought it was enough but it wasn't.  What I did not do, however, as I did not know, is the last part of the procedure or copy the new uuid number created with the new partition and copy it instead of the old one ... I have to try and let you know ok,  thank you

In the end I also went through the procedure of deleting the GUARD partition through the BMC and it seems that now slot B1 has started working again.  Very strange, however, as a defect, in the end I did nothing but replace one RAM bank with another and obviously everything was off and misaligned.  It is probably a bug in the BMC software.  Note that I performed the procedure not from a Linux system but from a Mac Book Pro M1 ...

Xlinder hi, before doing any procedure, I'll show you something interesting. As you tell me in your last post, the partitions contained in etc / fstab and dev / disk / by-uuid must match and in fact I find the first 3 all in its place. Except that as you can see for yourself, the offending one is not present, so maybe that's why he freezes for 1.30 as he looks for a partition that is present in etc / fstab but not in dev / disk / by-uuid ! What do you think? At this point, can you confirm that you try to do the procedure you described?
Thanks always very kind!

Don't worry, now I have to try somehow, indeed I always thank you for the advice you give me.  As soon as I can I will try to do this procedure you wrote to me, it also seems articulated so not easy, I need time to do everything calmly.  Thanks so much
