Operating Systems and Porting / Re: [NEWS] Debian 11 is out
« on: November 02, 2021, 04:24:08 pm »
Hi everyone, I need to understand how to install firmware for AMD GPUs on Debian 11. I have done some tests by downloading and installing what should be the latest firmware but I have not solved the same. Can you give me the procedure to download and install the firmware you need in bullseye for the AMD gpu? Thanks

I think I understand the problem anyway, I was able to read the initial error message and it tells me it can't find the GPU firmware! I wanted to see if I had the firmware updated by trying: sudo apt install -t bullseye-backport firmware-realtek firmware-iwlwifi firmware-linux-nonfree but it tells me that bullseye-backport I don't have them in release and therefore I can't install ... I have to understand so how to recover this updated firmware ...

But I don't think that's the MPC problem as I've always used the GPU activation file in the xorg.conf.d folder and it always worked.  It worked with Debian 10, works with all Fedora and all Ubuntu.  So I really don't think that now I have to do this suddenly ...

Good evening guys, after having irreparably damaged the Debian version 10.7 so far, I decided to delete and re-install everything. I installed version 11 and now after compiling a Kernel with 4K pages to start the Radeon 5700 XT graphics card, I realized that at startup it gives me a GPU error and does not start with that but always starts with AST. Can you tell me if it's a Mesa or Wayland problem or something else I don't know? I know that the Mesa drivers have been updated to version 20 or higher on Debian 11 so there shouldn't be this problem ... Currently it starts by default with Wayland but I don't remember how to disable it to tell the truth, always if you need to do it, maybe not need to disable Wayland now ... What do you think I'm missing? Hey Daniel Pocock, best wishes for your Talos II bought by my friend in Italy, what do you think is happening since you are Debian expert? Thanks

Hi guys excuse me, I was trying to upgrade debian buster to bullseye but something went wrong. While he was doing all the upgrades he put himself in stenad by, I was out of the room and I did not notice and now he no longer takes the commands sudo apt-get upgrade or sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and tells me that the dpkg is locked and I need to make some changes. What exactly must he do that I don't understand? Thanks

Operating Systems and Porting / New Ubuntu 21.10
« on: October 17, 2021, 04:02:09 am »
Guys, the new Ubuntu 21.10 is out and as I imagined, it has a much smoother and more normal Gnome 40 handling than Fedora. Canonical has in fact waited to use this version just to fix some of the problems it had and so now we at Power can also benefit from a normal and fluid interface almost as it should be. Also on the audio sector they preferred to stay on Pulse Audio and not switch to Pipewire given the problems encountered with the dedicated sound cards and which I myself have reported to the Fedora team. I upgraded yesterday morning and have been testing the system ever since, everything seems to be running fine and as it should so far.

Operating Systems and Porting / Re: [NEWS] linux kernel 5.14 is out

So it is a bug that really exists, not only I see it thank goodness ...! I hope that this change will be included in the next 5.15 so at least we can resume regular use even with the Radeon 5700 or others ...

Hi guys, I confirm what was said in the previous post about this version of Kernel 5.14. I tried to compile and install a later version than the first stable I tried at the beginning, version 5.14.2, but unfortunately the problem persists. This time I did more tests and I saw that using Ubuntu Server and then I think all the distros in server version, then the kernel starts and obviously I start it using Blackbird internal graphics. Then I installed the graphics part and I started Ubuntu always with Blackbird's AST and even here no problem, everything worked as it should. When I entered the classic configuration file to start my Radeon 5700 XT, the problem manifests itself as before. So ultimately I can confirm that unfortunately the drivers for these cards have again undergone a regression and currently it is not possible to use the 5.14.X Kernel with these cards ... It's just a disaster with these continuous regressions, I don't understand what they combine to make certain problems happen after a long time that the cards are out and working regularly, unbelievable ...

Here is the link that Dan from the Fedora Project team pointed out to me. https: //fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/DefaultPipeWire

I keep finding only up to version 87 and with last work done 4 months ago ... I can't find anything else unfortunately ... Or I don't know how to do the right procedure to find it ...

239
Except that I always see up to version 87, besides I don't see anything or at least I don't know how to see the next sources ... Also I see that the most recent files are from 3 months ago ... How can I find the sources from 88 to 93?

Guys I inform you that with the help of Dan from the Fedora Project, whom I thank again, I was able to solve the problem of the audio bug on Fedora 34 that prevented me from turning up the volume.  The problem is what I had suspected for some time, the new Pipewire audio management software, which causes this nasty bug for those who use a dedicated internal sound card.  I performed the little procedure on the Fedora Wiki which makes me reinstall Pulse audio and delete Pipewire and the system is back to working normally.  I already told Dan that he said that as soon as he got my feedback he would inform the Pipewire team.
