Hi Daniel, I remember this happening to me when I was using Ubuntu in version 20.04. If I left the computer for a while without using it, it would go to sleep with a black screen but when I tried to restore it from that state, the computer never recovered and crashed completely and you had to restart it. On Debian it never happened to me to be honest, I thought at the time that it was one of the many small Ubuntu bugs on Power but on Debian honestly I never tried to make it go to stand-by and then resume it ...

Great job, you can also try Gnome, since Debian has been updated to version 11, Gnome has improved a lot as a graphical environment and has gone from the old 3.30 to my second best version which is 3.38. I don't know how you manage to make the graphics card work with the default kernel or 5.10.x. To run Radeons correctly on that version of Kernel, you need the page size in 4k and by default the Kernels on Power all have 64K. They fixed this bug only later in the Kernel even though I don't remember exactly from that version right now ...

I don't know if this can give you an answer to your question but I personally have a blackbird with 24 GB of which one bank is 16 and the other is 8 and Raptor herself told me that I could do it without any problem. I can't tell you, however, that the performance changes, I use it regularly with all 24 GB and it has never given me problems, I just don't remember exactly which slot I put the 16 on and on which the 8 unfortunately ...

Hi TLE friend, yes I saw that you talked about it in the new thread dedicated to Fedora. I confirm what was said at the beginning that is that 5.19.1 goes perfect and without problems, we hope that with the new version 6 there will be no new problems, but if it should happen, I will immediately make sure to promptly report any bugs to all of you to search to remedy immediately. For version 5.17.X a great job has been done so that it has been fixed definitively in subsequent versions. So they finally started fixing the big problem Fedora suffers with Gnome from version 40 onwards I'm glad ... Only now maybe there is a version of Chromium missing that updates regularly like Debian-based distros ...

Greetings to the whole Power community, I thought that in order not to always create new discussions about each Kernel that comes out, make a single discussion that can contain all the main news and problems of the new Kernels on Power. I start immediately with the first test on the new 5.19.1 Kernel just installed and which seems to work without any kind of problem.

Unfortunately Nvdia, using proprietary drivers, does not get along very well with our Power9 machines and therefore consequently the resulting operation is never very good. For example, the old 2070 works but has limitations such as 3D acceleration which does not work. The only cards that are good and can be fully exploited are AMD at the moment ...

Hi, Petit boot on Fedora usually gets to see up to 3 Kernels installed by default. This is because I don't know if you know, Fedora by defoult keeps up to 3 installed kernels. So I don't know if you mean that you see the old one again and why you see it, or if you don't see 5.18.10 and you still see only 5.18.7 ... The post is not clear ...

I don't think they are specific drivers because usually MAME when it needs something specific requires it and makes you put it together with the roms. As I told you, they are a whole series of slightly more recent games, from a certain year onwards everyone does it. I've noticed this on all titles that are newer and from the late 90's onwards. I am sure that it is about optimizing the code because you understand that being a bit bigger games, it is already difficult to manage everything and if you start them with a much more modest hardware but based on X86, then the same games, with the same Roma, they go perfect. It's all about MAME on Power!
In my opinion the main problem is that this MAME on Power is simply a transposition from X86, not being written on Power, it does not exploit our processor at all and being a simple transposition, it has all the limits of the case unfortunately ...

NO Classic, I'm sure the problem is upstream, both the Debian version and the Ubuntu version have the same identical type of problem, Markr87 confirmed what I said and I'm sure the version of other distros will also have the same problem. Markr87 yes that's right, what I was telling you too, unfortunately several games a little less old than others, I can say, like, from the late 90s up, they have different functioning problems and that's why in my previous post, I highlighted this thing or that currently our mame does not have optimizations for our processor and therefore it goes badly on slightly more recent games and especially from the late 90s onwards ... Even today the last mame does not have optimizations that improve the situation and if someone does not specifically take our Power version and works on it seriously, we will never have improvements unfortunately ... The code must be optimized for Power ... But nobody knows how to update it and what repository is needed to do it?
