Applications and Porting / Software and Games for GPU new generation
« on: January 05, 2020, 05:22:49 pm »
Hello to the whole forum, now that we have support for the new AMD Navi10 GPUs, I was wondering with which software in particular, in your opinion it is possible to exploit them a little ... I don't know much currently of the most advanced Power software, also in the gaming field, while I know there are games of a certain thickness for Linux X86, I don't know anything about what could be on Power. Of course there won't be all there is on X86 I guess but I think that in any case something interesting will be there for us too ...

General CPU Discussion / Waiting for the new Power 9
« on: January 05, 2020, 03:11:46 pm »
Well guys, having started 2020 I can't help thinking about IBM and its programs. It has already been mentioned on Twitter but obviously the forum is now the most suitable place to talk in depth about these topics and therefore I would say to start talking about this fantastic new Power 9 processor which however does not yet have a proper name but a way to define it is AXON. There is a nice article about this new series of Power 9, it is said that the increase in power and bandwidth is remarkable, it is also known by now that IBM still intends to exploit Power 9 because there is no reason to switch to Power 10 as Power 9 still has a lot to offer and because the competition is not running too much and therefore you can still focus a lot on Power 9. The production process will still be on the 14th of GF, which then is none other than that of IBM when it still had the production plant which is now precisely owned by GF. I read that it is very refined to the point that it can be compared to TSMC 7, I even know that GF sued TSMC for patent infringement of their current 14-owner process, from where TSMC then pulled out the current 7. .. The agreement between IBM and GF still has a few years of validity, so also for this reason and for the fact that the 14 process is very advanced and current, I think IBM still has a lot to power use on the POWER 9.
So I hope so much to to see something concrete within the year, I am sure that we will see some beautiful ones ... FORCE POWER ALWAYS! ;)

« on: December 22, 2019, 07:46:32 am »
Sorry guys but at the level of software dedicated to Power, I was looking for Mame for Power some time ago, I had seen something inherent in our beloved architecture but in the end I did not find anything really downloadable, I read that currently there is not but as usual I will have 'read news that as for VLC is not said correspond to truth so I wonder if you know something more about the MAME situation on Power ... Thanks

User Zone / Sound card enabling
« on: December 22, 2019, 07:43:13 am »
Dear friends of the forum dedicated to the Power architecture, here I am again to open a new discussion because, having also wanted to install a recently released card in the audio field, I find myself having the same problem as the video one or the activation on Power . The card in question is the fabulous Soud Blaster AE-9 that I think many of you have got to know, I bought it because it is currently the best sound card available for computers, especially in relation to the very good price with the which is sold and being passionate about quality audio, I was obviously bewitched by this card. I also asked Raptor what he thought of it and they replied that although there were no agios drivers to use it, Sound Blasters usually work great on our beloved architecture. The problem as I said is always the same as with the graphics card, the system sees it perfectly and recognizes it as it should, Alsa Mixer has everything enabled, but the system only sees the digital output and hardly ever sees that analog and when it does in any case the sound does not come out, you put the audio piece, you see that in the system settings the audio output levels are enabled and the bars of the 2 channels move but at the actual audio output there is no is nothing, all silent. It is understood that this is a priority problem, that is, before her the system reads the audio outputs of the graphics card, those of the Blackbird and then those of the sound card, then an enabling problem due to missing drivers and that does not I know if at the moment I can be available or created starting as usual from the X86 version. I also spoke to Creative who replied that they do not support Linux as an operating system and therefore to address those who port the drivers for these cards ...

Hi guys, I'm looking for applications to be able to read bluray discs correctly, do you have any application to recommend?  Unfortunately today VLC is not available on Power, I was hoping for that but it is not available ...

Blackbird / HDMI output for mother board
« on: December 01, 2019, 09:38:35 am »
Hi everyone, I open this other discussion because I have a problem that I also mentioned in Raptor, regarding the HDMI output of the card. In practice, sometimes when you load the firmware when the power switch is turned on, when you load and send the video of what you are doing, nothing appears. The system continues to function regularly and you can hear the end of the petit boot loading but the video cannot be seen. If I turn off the stand-by button then reloading there is the same problem, while if I turn off the main power supply switch and then switch the bmc firmware back on before booting, then it works again, so I think that is a bug in the current bmc firmware that causes this annoying problem. Today he did it 3 times in a row before returning to work regularly. Are any of you experiencing the same problem?

User Zone / Graphics Card install
« on: November 30, 2019, 04:39:07 am »
Hi everyone, I would like to use my graphics card on my Blackbird system but I didn't understand some passages. They tell me to take the files with the .BIN extension and put them in / lib / firmware / amdgpu but the problem is that I don't know where to take this line or directory, I didn't understand what the / lib / firmware / amdgpu line is exactly, how to put all the .BIN files downloaded. Does anyone know how to proceed? Thanks

Condor / Technical features
« on: November 27, 2019, 03:08:49 pm »
Hi everyone, Raptor does not tell us anything about this beautiful card, I would like to understand for example if it will mount HDMI video output and 5.1 audio output or for these features you will have to resort to the additional cards ...
