Hi,

Thanks. I've succeeded to create a VM using virt-manager.

But the path /dev/kvm does not exist in my file system. Does that mean that I'm running software virtualization and not hardware virt?

I saw that error from the GNOME Boxes. If I run the command egrep '^flags.*(vmx|svm)' /proc/cpuinfo I also get no response. Any idea?

Hi,

I've got my new Blackbird and installed Fedora 32 on it, KVM and GNOME BOXES. When I try to create VMs I get the following error messages: "Virtualization extensions are unavailable on your system. Check your BIOS settings to enable them".

I've tried all options on PetitBoot menu but could not find how to enable virtualization extensions.

Anyone had this issue? Any help is welcome.

Thanks,

I wonder this is possible but I guess I cannot run Windows code on ppc64el. There must be some x86 emulation but I have no idea how to set it up.

Operating Systems and Porting / Running a Windows VM on Fedora 32
« on: May 17, 2020, 12:59:02 am »
Hi All,

I'm new to Talos. I've got a blackbird and installed Fedora 32.

I want to create a Windows 10 VM to run a few applications that are not available on Linux.

Has anyone done this before? Searching on the web I saw people writing about emulating x86 on ppc but not enough details and not specific for Talos.

Thanks

Blackbird / Max resolution of the HDMI (motherborad)
« on: May 11, 2020, 02:33:35 am »
Hi All,

I've just got my new Blackbird, powered it on on loaded the pre-installed Debian.

The max resolution I get is 1024x768.

Anyone has had this issue?

According to the product page the on board HDMI is full HD, ie, capable of delivering 1920x1080.

I'd like to set it to 1920x1080. Anyone knows how to increase the resolution?

Thanks in advance,
Claudio

Blackbird / Re: Keyboard unresponsive at boot menu (Petitboot)

Thank you both for the feed-back. I've ordered the Blackbird without GPU so I understand from your replies that I'll be able to see the whole boot process on the HDMI.

Firmware / How to setup Secure Boot with PetitBoot
« on: April 24, 2020, 09:35:29 am »
Hi All,

I'm new to Power9 and would like to ask the community how to setup Secure Boot on PetitBoot?

Assuming a brand new system came with Debian pre installed, will I have to reinstall the OS or just "feed-in" into PetitBoot a public key from Debian to authenticate the OS signature on the boot partition before PetitBoot loads it?

An "architectural" question: does PetitBoot run on OpenBMC? I understood that PetitBoot (or maybe it is OpenBMC) runs on a separate hardware and not in the main cpu?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm new to Talos. I've just bought a Blackbird and still did not receive it.

If I understood it correctly, I will not see on HDMI the boot sequence until the Debian pre installed starts to print messages.

Is that correct? Will I have to open to cabinet when I get the product and switch any strap?

Thanks in advance,
Claudio

Blackbird / Re: Regular users issues
« on: April 23, 2020, 04:05:39 am »
Hi,

I'm a newbee with PowerPC. I had asked Raptor's support if the Blackbird comes with OS (Debian) preinstalled with the graphical interface. They answered yes.

When I read this thread I got confused. If it comes with Debian preinstalled why would I (I'm a less technical user) bother to install another OS? Although I've done it on x86 directly on the hardware and also as VMs I'd prefer to start with a "working machine" out-of-the-box.

So, when I get the Blackbird, will I be able to use it (as a regular user - email/browser) out of the box? or Will I have to learn how to install the OS on this system?

Thank you all for your patience and attention,
Claudio
