Applications and Porting / [DEV] Porting homebrew to Linux ppc64le

homebrew is a popular package manager for macOS. I have been using it on my MacBook Pro for more than 10 years. It's simple and 'just work'!

Good news is that homebrew has officially support Linux! But not-so-good news is that they don't support ppc64le architecture. Well not until now, introducing a set of patches to port brew to linux ppc64le, you can see more details at https://github.com/homebrew-ppc64le/brew

I have let the homebrew community know about my work on https://discourse.brew.sh/t/preliminary-support-for-ppc64le-platform/6832 and let's hope they would endorse the ppc64le officially.

Bootloader does not show up on monitor(s) attached to a discrete GPU
Most modern discrete GPUs require firmware. As Talos™ II is aimed at a security-conscious audience, we do not currently include GPU firmware in the production firmware images. Instructions are available in the Users Guide to add firmware for your GPU to the PNOR if needed. Note that any added firmware may be able to access and modify data associated with the affected device(s); we strongly recommend you perform a security risk analysis before loading any firmware, and select open firmware where/if it is available.

If you are using a GPU that does not require firmware, or have already added any needed firmware files to the host PNOR, please ensure that the on-board VGA disable jumper (J10109) is capped. The bootloader output will preferentially show up on the on-board VGA port if it remains enabled.

Alternatively, you either use a serial console or VGA monitor / adapter to interact with the bootloader.

I would like to know what the output would be like on the host PNOR when the linux vega10 firmwares are loaded correctly.

Btw, I also did try to disable on-board VGA output by capping the jumper (J10109), nothing is displayed on my monitor.

NOTE: I have tested this graphic card on my Windows PC box, it works perfectly.

I am trying to make Gigabyte Radeon Graphics Card GV-RXVEGA64GAMING OC-8GD card working on boot. I follow the instructions in https://wiki.raptorcs.com/wiki/Add_GPU_Firmware_To_BOOTKERNFW to bundle up firmware then flash those firmwares to PNOR

Just wondering firmware is loaded correctly or not, is there anything I could do determine the root cause?

I usually drop into skiroot by selecting Exit to shell option in Pettitboot menu then shutdown with `halt`command. Wondering if hard shutdown by disconnecting power source is just as good?

Well this reliable TP-LINK TL-WN725N V2 Wifi dongle aren't working out of the box on Fedora 32 (rawhide). However it is simple enough to find and install driver:

NOTE: There is issue with the `Makefile`, I have lodge a patch at https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu/pull/311, let's hope this Pull Request get merged soon.

I am doing homework for a PCI-e 4.0 X16 card to host many M.2 NVMe SSD in RAID config for my Blackbird /w POWER9 V2 8-core box.

I learn that the ASUS Hyper M.2 PCI-e X16 V2 Expansion Card is one popular choice amongst AMD Ryzen Threadripper platform.

I would like to ask if the Blackbird offers the similar RAID on CPU support? Is there any pro-sumer/enterprise product that offer PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs RAID?

Hi all

I am in the process to migrate to the Blackbird box I've just built. There are plenty of dev softwares that aren't running yet on Linux ppc64le. Slowly I think we will get there...

Anyway, if you are using `asdf`, I would like to report that following language installed successfully:

* ruby
* erlang
* elixir
* nodejs

Other languages that are used to have issues:

* golang (now supported after the merger of ppc64le support)
* rust (now support after the merger of ppc64le support)

So far so good
