Title: Where to buy IBM Power9 CPUs in Europe for private individuals?
Post by: FlyingBlackbird on February 17, 2020, 04:51:44 pm
Customs clearance is a complicated process and RMA handling even more if I wanted to upgrade my machine.

Which retailers or other dealers in Europe do sell Power9 CPUs to private individuals?

Besides Vikings?

The question is actually to whom does IBM sell individual CPUs. I can't think of anyone. Even if you buy POWER systems from Thomas-Krenn you will not get CPUs from them. But it costs nothing to ask them.

You could also check the OpenPOWER page to see which European companies are members and ask them.

But in the end, maybe only eBay (https://www.ebay.de/itm/IBM-Monza-LaGrange-Power9-Power-9-CPUs-02CY388/153655284860?hash=item23c691947c:g:AwAAAOSwrYxdiXpB) will be left.

YES I agree with ClassicHas, unfortunately there is nobody in Europe because they basically don't even know Power in himself. Power systems as servers are there but IBM itself sells them and manages them to companies so they do everything through companies and only for them. Who should they retail if there are no Power systems for the common consumer? I repeat, they do not even know what we are talking about, I in Italy, MPC in Germany, we are a small pack of white flies scattered throughout Europe that we proudly support and buy Power but like us there are few ...! I spoke some time ago with an Ubuntu manager for Italy, when I told him that I had a problem with Gnome and that he was on a Power system, he hardly knew what I was talking about, he told me that the totality of Linux systems in Italy are based on X86 and therefore could not help me understand the problem ...!
