Title: ASUS Hyper M.2 PCI-e X16 V2 Expansion Card and Support for RAID on CPU
Post by: tle on February 02, 2020, 08:15:56 am
I am doing homework for a PCI-e 4.0 X16 card to host many M.2 NVMe SSD in RAID config for my Blackbird /w POWER9 V2 8-core box.

I learn that the ASUS Hyper M.2 PCI-e X16 V2 Expansion Card (https://www.asus.com/Motherboard-Accessories/HYPER-M-2-X16-CARD-V2/) is one popular choice amongst AMD Ryzen Threadripper platform.

I would like to ask if the Blackbird offers the similar RAID on CPU support? Is there any pro-sumer/enterprise product that offer PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs RAID?

Here is a list of working PCIe to M.2 Adapters (https://wiki.raptorcs.com/wiki/POWER9_Hardware_Compatibility_List/PCIe_Devices#PCIe_to_M.2_Adapters).
AFAIK, there is no PCIe4 card out there. And IIRC, the Asus card is only partially working (at best), because of the missing PCIe switch. A PCIe switch is needed to get all NVMe slots working.

I was looking for this card too but could not find a vendor for that. I thought this card only sold together with a Threadripper main board...
