I can tell you that even now it performs very well, Debian's reputation for its proverbial stability is not denied even in this version not yet officially released and unlike Fedora which often regresses, Debian continues to improve.  I am very satisfied with how it performs on Power, very satisfied indeed congratulations to the Debian team for the excellent work done also for our beloved architecture.

Friend MPC for me it was because I didn't expect to find myself now with version 12, I understood that I would have seen it later than now. I also really appreciated how it behaves because since version 11, the Debian team has done a really good job and now their Power distro is running really well. Since I switched to Debian I haven't been taken back and then seeing the regressions that regularly afflict Fedora well, I'm honestly more and more happy to have switched to Debian! At the same time, I think it is useless to continue using Fedora on Power, obviously my opinion, but the situation that that distro has experienced since it was updated to Gnome 3.4.X and all the rest around it is really embarrassing. I see that several users here continue to use it and I don't quite understand why, ok maybe you want to try it out but guys, it hasn't been going for years now, you understand that Power doesn't have enough support and therefore it's not good, not very usable and not very handsome. It just doesn't work, let's deal with it and go with distros that deserve more...

Good evening guys, today while I was regularly using my Power System with Debian 11.6, I receive a classic notification of various updates and when I go to open the update package manager, I find the beauty fi 2078 updates... I tell myself damn what is it ' happened, maybe they updated Debian to 11.7 and instead I find myself with Debian 12... I didn't even know it was in circulation, I had understood that it would come out towards the end of the year but apparently it's not like that if now I'm writing from Debian 12... Honestly I didn't expect it, it has Gnome 3.43.4 and it seems to work very well and fluidly. The appearance is very reminiscent of Fedora with Gnome 3.40 and therefore the most used application bar is at the bottom and not on the sides. At the moment it seems to work quite well, it has also updated the Kernel to version 6.1 and therefore now the Kernel has a good recent version as well. I'll try to test everything these days, I don't know why maybe yesterday since I entered a repository that I saw on the site, it's probably the one that made me download this update because I don't think it's officially available yet for everyone. I just wanted to install Corectr and instead I have the impression of having done much more without wanting to... Gnome's fluidity is very reminiscent of the excellent one of Ubuntu with Gnome 3.4.X, they seem to be very similar and let's say it is what Fedora should have been when it passed to the new version 40 and which instead was not... Obviously all the various basic applications have also been updated such as Libreoffice for example which is now in version 7.4. All in all, an unexpected surprise...

Good news then thanks, I'll try to install this application as soon as possible and see how it works specifically.

I've just read that the CoreCtrl application for Debian has been released, a program to monitor all your computer's activities including CPU and GPU temperatures.  Does anyone know if it will also be available for us at Power in the short term?

Hi, in fact what is happening to you is a bit strange, I also use Debian 11.6 but no problems with the radeon 5700 XT until now at least. I too used Kernel 6.1 until recently and I have never encountered similar problems. Are you sure your GPU is working fine? Because from what it seems, you have the same software that I use so it seems strange to me that this happens, I wouldn't want your graphics card to have some critical issues...

52
I've read that from version 113, Chrome will get more specific support for gpu usage called WebGPU, I've also read that it's coming to Linux as well. Do you think we too will be able to have this possibility once it arrives on Linux?

53
Ah so they criticized you maybe because you told them that you use Linux on Power am I right? I can imagine the usual narrow-mindedness of these people who never see beyond their nose... What do you have to do with hardware that few have, with something that doesn't exist, with something that has no optimization, no software, etc. etc... The usual ignorant mass in a nutshell!

54
friend Daniel, I hope you have resolved your dispute with Debian on the developer talk, I hope you can be back in your development post on Power for Debian...

55
For Google we at Power represent a kind of threat because they can't have total control over us like they do on Arm and X86 and that's why unfortunately they officially stopped letting us develop our Chromium and force us to carry on ours through Tim ... We are always grateful to him for the great work he does for Chromium on Power!

56
Yes I agree, always good that Power supporters are considered active for the Linux world!

Here is the new Kernel 6.1.2 being tested on Debian 11.6. It seems that everything is going well!

I get it, can you tell me how to build it for Debian too?  What procedure to use or is there a site where I can find the whole step-by-step procedure to do it myself... Thanks.

so it also exists for us apparently... I've read however that currently the only one available is for Fedora because the Deb version hasn't been developed since 2009... They say yes, it must be adapted before being able to install it on Debian as well or ubuntu
