Applications and Porting / Sega Dreamcast emulations
« on: December 25, 2022, 04:11:51 pm »
Sorry guys, have any of you ever used LXDREAM ppc64LE version? I've read that it's one of the few that runs the Sega Dreamcast well in emulation...Do you have any news about it? Always thanks!

Operating Systems and Porting / Re: [NEWS] Fedora 37 has arrived!
« on: December 19, 2022, 12:49:19 am »
What I can tell you about Fedora is that unlike Debian and derivatives, you can't download the Kernel from the classic source and compile it because it necessarily requires its procedure and it necessarily wants its sources.  You must therefore necessarily download from Fedora sources and use their specific procedure.  One of the reasons that prompted me not to use Fedora anymore is precisely this, which represents a limitation for me.  In their sources you can only download the version they say and you can't even use the universal procedure because at a certain point it doesn't work anymore.

I'm testing the mainline of 6.1 on Ubuntu a bit, it seems that everything is fine at the moment. As soon as the stable version 6.1.1 comes out I will compile and install it on Debian. At the moment no bugs to report, at least at startup which is usually always the most critical part of a new Kernel...

Perfect great choice!  Very happy to hear from you! :D

Operating Systems and Porting / Re: [NEWS] Linux 6.1 is officially released

Yes, I've just seen that they released the final version, as soon as the stable version comes out, I'll try to compile and install on Debian and see how it behaves...

I agree with Classic, it's a pity that you want to leave our Power world, I understand that sometimes there are things that become a bit difficult to manage because of the imperfect support but I also think that one of our major strengths it is the cohesion and unity to be able to solve gradually all the problems that arise. You think that at the beginning I had a lot of small problems, I had to send the Blackbird to you twice in America and from Italy I assure you it's really expensive. I had bought the Radeon XT 5700 which still didn't have support and so I was with a $500 graphics card that I couldn't use. Yet slowly with patience and above all the help here from all the guys in the Power and Raptor community, we managed to solve all the problems and now I am very satisfied with my Power system as well as very proud and proud to have an exclusive computer, with my favorite processor architecture and that in Italy above all I think almost nobody has! So I feel privileged and reading these things obviously makes me very sorry because we need everyone in the community to make Power grow! So come on, don't give up!

General Discussion / Re: AMD RX 6900 XT from Sapphire NITRO
« on: December 03, 2022, 03:12:17 pm »
I just read Q66's post on Navi10 and I read that now he is seeing that 6.1.rc7 has problems with RX 5700 and he says they have problems like there have been for version 5.19 but I replied that I personally have never had any problems with Kernel versions 5.18 and 5.19 with RX5700... I don't understand what you mean with that sentence about the Navi10 problem with Kernel 5.19...

Operating Systems and Porting / Re: [NEWS] Debian 11 is out

so you advise against doing these updates at the moment I understand... Better wait for the next distro 12 maybe...

69
Ok thanks, don't worry, there are no problems, we answer when possible, I will look for this option as soon as I compile the new Kernel 6.1 in stable version. I'm waiting for its release...

Sorry guys, if I want to update mesa drivers and firmware on Debian 11, which procedure should I use?  Thanks always!

GPU Compute / Accelerators / Re: Intel Arc A770 - failed experiment
« on: November 24, 2022, 02:17:41 pm »
Yes, I also read the news that they are working to make the new Arc GPUs usable also by other alternative architectures to X86. We hope that they will be well supported and that a user like us at Power can choose which GPU to buy, without being forced by the support issue... Let's see what happens in the coming months... Meanwhile, the Radeon 7000 series are about to arrive...

Great job well, after so much finally, Chromium is back on Fedora too, it's missing from that famous 87 version when it was still Chromium with Google exsperince, now we can't use it on Power anymore but at least having Chromium is always great, well done great job!

73
Yes TLE, I also confirm what you say because once I tried compiling version 87 and I remember that it took hours to complete the cycle, I have an 8 core.  But excuse me are you building the latest version Raptor supports with Debian?  I switched to Debian for some time and I use this one and in fact I don't see Fedora versions for example...

74
Ah well good news, I would say finally! So I deduce that from kernel version 6.1 onwards, you can finally use an RDNA 2 6xxx card! It's been too long in fact, let's hope it doesn't have to pass the same time for RDNA 3 at this point ...

GPU Compute / Accelerators / Re: AMD Radeon 6600 XT - attempt #2
« on: November 08, 2022, 05:52:48 am »
From version 5.17 onwards, that line is no longer needed, so the problem is still the same apparently ... AMD's rdna 2 doesn't work on power and this is very strange.  At this point I would say that the only ones who can do something are the Raptor team, as they did for 10 ships ... I don't see any other way, it's been 2 years and we still can't use rdna 2 ...
