They're saying that it's open source and someone(tm) can implement it if they want to sit down and do it.

Yes, that's right, or you can get the IPMI address from the sticker on the motherboard.

You'd think they would, having Zaius and Barreleye.

Operating Systems and Porting / Re: Possibility to install Amiga OS 4

It doesn't know how to deal with the architecture; it's written only for PowerPC-based Amigas, which despite being the same family of CPU, have very different system facilities.

Amiga OS 4 is not compatible with any OpenPOWER hardware, including Raptor family systems.

You download and extract on whatever system you want to use, but the file to be uploaded needs to be on the "helper" computer, obviously.

Talos II / Re: Rackmount Server Chassis for Talos II

Why do you want to use the 1K28R-SQ? I have 1K41P-SQs in my Talos II and I find that adequately quiet.

It should, yes. At worst it just won't work -- you won't be any worse off.

What method did you use to update it that went wrong?

ClassicHas you who did the update, are there problems for which it is better to wait or can you run?

The basic functionality works. Where I had the issue was trying to change the network address. If you're not doing that, or one of those people who altered the password file, then it will probably work just fine for you.

General CPU Discussion / Re: Waiting for the new Power 9
« on: February 23, 2020, 04:59:41 pm »
Jon Masters is an ARM shill and his recent statements are disappointingly transparent. I don't hate ARM, but it's not "open" and he twists himself in knots arguing that it's okay to be "open but not that open." It's disingenuous of him, especially given his pedigree in the industry, and we should expect NUVIA CPUs to be more of the same.

Another take on his statements is that NUVIA sees OpenPOWER as a threat. I'm writing an article to that effect.

You've never updated the firmware on your system before? Even with the old ssh method?

I don't know anyone else currently selling POWER9 CPUs retail.

User Zone / Re: Sound card enabling

You could use USB audio in the meantime. It's cheap and it generally "just works." I thought about a soundcard but I don't really need much other than stereo audio on this machine currently.
