I see sharkcz is already involved in this conversation. I personally am not aware of anything that would break as a result (in fact, as you correctly point out, many things would suddenly "just work"). My only hesitancy is it would make 64K page kernels more of a pariah than they are already, sort of like another situation with big-endian, and there are performance reasons for 64K pages. Might this, perhaps, be a Workstation-only change and keep the performance benefits for Fedora Server?

Why would Wayland make a difference? Who told you that?

Wayland has been the default for GNOME since F25, though I use Xorg.

Yes, I'm certainly prepared to admit that gdm is part of the problem. A lot of things worked better without it.

I don't see your fixed patch?

Wayland works "fine" (for various values of "fine") if you have a GPU. Or I should say, my objections to Wayland remain the same on my T2 as they do on x86_64.

My BMC-only Blackbird ran like glue with Wayland, and this was acknowledged (for various values of "acknowledged") by a Wayland developer I consulted with about it. This did seem to improve in Fedora 33, possibly due to other improvements such as in llvmpipe, but it can't be tricked into generating any larger displays so far: https://www.talospace.com/2020/11/fedora-33-mini-review-on-blackbird-and.html

I should also note I am no longer running gdm at all. I boot to a text prompt and start Xorg or Wayland manually. This also solved a lot of problems.

Nice work. I just use my own huepl utility on mine, but I've been thinking of expanding what home automation features it can control.

Although Raptor can confirm, my bet is it's implemented. The way it's described in the update, the kernel wouldn't need to be aware of it.

Yes, having a second system is a good idea. My Blackbird serves this role for my T2.

I think it might be the controller as well. Do you have a PCI one you can try?

Wow. That probably doesn't help.

Myself, I'd probably prefer the DD2.3 stepping because I need proper DAWR support for development. Was there a price range quoted?

Sounds gnarly. Got a link? I'm curious.

Blackbird / Re: [amdgpu] [Fiji] Fedora 32 Linux kernel 5.7.x crashes
« on: November 16, 2020, 12:44:45 pm »

I'm thinking about exchanging my Talos II for two of the Talos II Lite motherboards.  Then I could use one as my regular workstation and the other as both a test system and a spare.

If I do that then it will be much easier for me to test new GPUs and drivers and anything else that requires reboots, X server restarts and potential crashes.

I recommend something like this (or at least a test and a production system). My Blackbird serves as test so that I don't whack my daily driver.

I assume it doesn't show up either as an option in Petitboot.
