Installation of Ubuntu Server 19.10 on NVMe device fails (could not stat device)

(1/1)

FlyingBlackbird:
Ubuntu did not recognize the NVMe device as installation target due to an internal bug.

Eg. @tle reported this error as
> Failed attempt to install Ubuntu Server 19.10 because the installer failed to pick up NVMe drive correctly
https://wiki.raptorcs.com/wiki/User:Tle

I have documented a workaround in my wiki user page:

https://wiki.raptorcs.com/wiki/User:FlyingBlackbird#NVMe_SSD_is_recognized_but_the_installation_seems_to_use_the_wrong_device_name_later:

tle:
Thanks for documenting it.

It would be great if this issue is addressed in the upstream Ubuntu.

What do you think about lodging a ticket with Ubuntu folks?

FlyingBlackbird:
I'd suppose the bug is so prominent that it must be fixed in 20.04 (coming soon) but yes, I did not search the bug list of Ubuntu.

Perhaps I should have highlighted the link to the original description (https://egevig.org/linux/installing-ubuntu-server-19-10-on-intel-nuc)
I have adapted to Blackbird more clearly in my user page.

I would like to wait for my new Blackbird motherboard (I have just sent back my defective Blackbird) so that I can retest and document it with 20.04
then I open an issue.

FlyingBlackbird:
Here is the bug report:
