IBM POWER9+ ?

Because it will still take over a year for the POWER10 to materialize, I was wondering if IBM would participate in a POWER9+? A die-shrink of the current POWER9 to 7nm or 5nm.
Since the POWER9 is open-source, how difficult would it be for Raptor to do this or to order it from e.g. Samsung?
In the long run it would probably be advantageous in price and Raptor would be independent from IBM.

Even "simple" die shrinks are very, very costly, and POWER sales volumes cannot justify such an expense. IBM succeeds due to its system sales, and OpenPOWER support is an offshoot of whatever the system roadmap drives for processor development.

What a pity, then this is unfortunately also no possibility.

We all knew about a Power 9 Axon AIO given out for the end of the year ... The production process always had to be the 14 IBM owner made by GF ... I'd like to understand if they have changed these plans or if there is still a possibility that it will come out ... On the other hand Power 10 is still far away and the whole server line would need a general update I think ...

Hard to make 14nm processors with the fab transitioning away.

Wow. That probably doesn't help.
