Cannot change boot option

I recently cleared the BMC with the serial cable method.

Now I can login to the BMC, however when I am in the boot options menu, and try to change or add a boot option, I enter the password, then get the message:

"Client must be running as root to make changes"

What does this meen? I am already running obmc-console-client as root when ssh'd into the bmc
